Commission seeks views on housing as it prepares a plan to tackle the affordability crisis

The Commission is gathering views from EU citizens, businesses, public authorities, civil society and other stakeholders on housing to help prepare the European Affordable Housing Plan and tackle the housing crisis. The Commission is seeking these views through a call for evidence. Improving the affordability of housing is a political priority for the first-ever Commissioner for Housing, Dan Jørgensen. This call for evidence, which will be open for one month, until xx, will be followed by a more detailed public consultation running from June to October. Throughout 2025, the Commission will be carrying out a dialogue on affordable housing to tackle a problem that is affecting millions of Europeans.

In April, it proposed to double the amount of cohesion policy funding dedicated to affordable housing, and it launched the first step towards a pan-European investment platform. In February, the Commission adopted the EU Affordable Energy Action Plan with short-term measures to lower energy costs, bring down bills and reduce energy poverty.

In parallel, the Commission is establishing a Housing Advisory Board, whose 15 members will provide independent policy recommendations for the Affordable Housing Plan.

More details on how the Commission is gathering evidence and ensuring inclusive engagement can be found on the newly launched Commission website dedicated to housing.
