European Commission discusses Housing with Member States

On Tuesday 14 October, the European Commission held a meeting at the Albert Borschette Congress Center in Brussels, where delegates from ministries responsible for housing across the EU Member States gathered to discuss issues of relevance for the upcoming European Affordable Housing Plan.    

Following an update to Member States on latest developments by the European Parliament and the current and future Council Presidencies,  the Commission presented the progress on the Pan-European Investment Platform, State aid review, mid-term review of cohesion policy, Social Climate Plans as well as the forthcoming European Housing Construction Strategy and Anti-Poverty Strategy. 

National representatives shared their input on finance and funding for housing, how red tape needs to be cut  to speed up housing supply, identifying and supporting the groups that are most affected by the housing crisis, and how to best work together to deliver on housing objectives. 

A full room and lively discussions despite a national strike that made it hard to travel to the meeting, is a testimony to Member States’ and the Commission's determination to work closely together to address the housing crisis.
