Executive Vice-President Ribera held implementation dialogue on public support for affordable housing

Teresa Ribera, European Commission EVP

On 13 November, Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera, responsible for a Clean, Just, and Competitive Transition, hosted in Brussels the implementation dialogue on public support for affordable housing. The dialogue gave participants an opportunity to share their views and insights on the public funding of housing projects, with a focus on the contribution of State aid policy to the overall action of the European Commission under the upcoming European Affordable Housing Plan.

A diverse and balanced group of stakeholders from different EU Member States animated the debate, including representatives from national governments and municipalities as well as from organisations directly involved in the implementation of State aid rules in the housing sector.

Participants were invited to debate whether the Commission’s proposal to review certain State aid rules in the housing sector has the potential to address the issues they encounter on the ground, and whether it is fit for purpose and balanced. Participants were also invited to suggest other possible initiatives at EU level to support national, regional and local authorities in addressing the housing crisis.

Implementation dialogues are part of the Commission's commitment to seek feedback from stakeholders for the implementation and simplification of EU policies. As outlined in the Commission’s Communication on Implementation and Simplification for the 2024-2029 mandate, all Members of the College of Commissioners host at least two implementation dialogues per year.
